BEIRUT, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli army established on Monday a new military post in the border region of southern Lebanon, as an Israeli drone strike wounded four people, according to Lebanese security and health sources.

A Lebanese security source told Xinhua that the newly established post was set up at the northern entrance of Kafr Kila village, about 15 meters from the UN-demarcated Blue Line.

It is "surrounded by an earthen barrier, equipped with surveillance devices and heavy machine guns, and houses a Merkava tank," the source said.

The move comes a week after Israel established a post near the Israeli settlement of Misgav Am, which a Lebanese source claimed lies roughly 800 meters inside Lebanese territory.

Meanwhile, the Public Health Emergency Operations Center of Lebanon's Ministry of Public Health said in a statement that "a bomb dropped by the Israeli enemy's drone ... wounded four individuals, all of them Syrian nationals."

Since Nov. 27, 2024, a U.S.- and French-brokered ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel has formally been in effect, ending more than a year of cross-border clashes. The agreement stipulated Israel's withdrawal from southern Lebanon, but the Israeli army has maintained several posts along the border and continues to launch airstrikes, citing "threats" from Hezbollah.
