BEIRUT, May 11 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam on Monday called for increased pressure on Israel to halt its military operations and ceasefire violations.
During the meeting with U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa, Aoun stressed the need to pressure Israel to cease fire, halt military operations, and stop demolishing and bulldozing homes in southern Lebanon, according to a statement issued by the presidency.
The meeting also addressed the latest developments over the upcoming third Lebanese-U.S.-Israeli meeting scheduled to be held in Washington later this week.
In a separate meeting with Issa, Salam reviewed preparations for his anticipated visit to Washington this week, according to Lebanon's National News Agency.
The developments came after a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon took effect last month following weeks of cross-border fighting tied to broader regional tensions triggered by U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran.
Despite the fragile truce, Israel intensified its bombardment of Beirut's southern suburbs on Thursday, saying it was targeting Hezbollah sites.
