JERUSALEM, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Friday that it killed a Hezbollah militant in southern Lebanon for allegedly attempting to rebuild the group's military presence near the border.
According to an IDF statement, the militant was struck on Thursday in the village of al-Tiri near the town of Bint Jbeil.
The IDF accused him of working to restore Hezbollah's military infrastructure, an act it described as a violation of the ongoing ceasefire understandings between Israel and Lebanon.
"The IDF will continue to operate to remove any threat to Israel," the statement read.
Despite the U.S.- and French-brokered ceasefire that took effect on Nov. 27, 2024, Israel has continued to conduct strikes in Lebanon, citing threats from Hezbollah, and maintains a presence at five key positions along the Lebanese border.
