Israeli strikes kill 2, wound 1 in Lebanon: report

BEIRUT, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Two people were killed and another was injured on Monday in Israeli airstrikes on southern and eastern Lebanon, according to Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA) and security sources.

NNA reported that an Israeli drone struck a water transport tanker on the road to the city of Nabatieh with a guided missile, killing Mohammad Hussein Yassin from the village of Kafr Tebnit.

Another drone attack hit the Shamsa area in Lebanon's Bekaa region, targeting an excavator and killing its driver.

Meanwhile, a separate airstrike on the village of Aitaroun in southern Lebanon injured one person. Israel did not immediately comment.

Since Nov. 27, 2024, a ceasefire agreement between Hezbollah and Israel, brokered by the United States and France, has been in effect, ending clashes that erupted following the war in the Gaza Strip.

Despite the agreement, the Israeli army occasionally carries out strikes in Lebanon, claiming they are to eliminate Hezbollah "threats," while maintaining its forces in five main positions along the Lebanese border.
