BAGHDAD, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- Iraq and Lebanon signed here on Thursday seven Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and a judicial cooperation agreement to deepen economic and legal relations.
The MoUs, covering trade, investment, transport, and exhibitions, were signed by Iraqi Trade Minister Atheer al-Ghurairy and Lebanese Minister of Economy and Trade Amer Bisat during the second session of the Iraq-Lebanon Joint Committee in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, according to a statement from the Iraqi Ministry of Trade.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, al-Ghurairy reaffirmed Iraq's commitment to strengthening cooperation with Lebanon, calling the joint committee meeting a significant milestone in bilateral relations.
The Iraqi Justice Ministry said an agreement on the exchange of convicts was also signed during the meeting, marking an important step in strengthening Iraqi-Lebanese ties and upholding the principle of reciprocity.
The deal will allow convicted nationals from both countries to serve their sentences in their home states, according to the ministry.
