1 killed, 5 injured in Israeli airstrikes on S. Lebanon

BEIRUT, June 28 (Xinhua) -- A Hezbollah member was killed, and five civilians injured on Saturday in Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon, according to health authorities and a security source in Lebanon.

In a statement, the Public Health Emergency Operations Center, affiliated with the Ministry of Public Health, confirmed that an Israeli drone strike on a vehicle in the town of Kounine, the Bint Jbeil district, resulted in one killed and another injured.

While another Israeli drone targeting a house near the village of Shaqra in the Bint Jbeil district wounded four civilians, it added.

A Lebanese security source told Xinhua that the person killed was identified as Hassan Mohammad Jumaa, a member of Hezbollah.

These incidents come despite a ceasefire agreement between Hezbollah and Israel, brokered by the United States and France, which has been in effect since Nov. 27, 2024. The deal brought an end to over a year of cross-border hostilities triggered by the war in Gaza.

Nevertheless, the Israeli military continues to carry out occasional strikes in Lebanon, which it claims are intended to eliminate "Hezbollah threats."
