DAMASCUS -- Abu Salem al-Iraqi, a senior Islamic State (IS) leader in southern Syria, blew himself up during a Syrian security operation in the southern province of Daraa on Tuesday, state news agency SANA reported on Wednesday.

Citing a security source, SANA said the Syrian security forces carried out a security operation, which led to al-Iraqi detonating his explosive belt after being encircled by the Syrian forces inside a house in the town of Adwan in the western countryside of Daraa. (Syria-ISIS Commander-Killed)

BAGHDAD -- Iraqi powerful Shiite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr on Wednesday called on the country's judiciary to dissolve the parliament by the end of next week, due to the expiry of the constitutional deadlines for the formation of a new government.

The parliament does not need to convene to dissolve itself, because some parliamentary blocs adhere to the quota system, continue to engage in corruption, and refuse to bow to the people's demand to dissolve parliament, Al-Sadr tweeted. (Iraq-Cleric-Dissolve-Parliament)

BEIRUT, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- An Italian agency and the United Nations on Wednesday signed a two-year agreement to repair the Mar Mikhael railway station in the Lebanese capital of Beirut and the housing units damaged by the 2020 blasts at the Beirut port.

The agreement, which is estimated to be worth 2.3 million euros (2.37 million U.S. dollars), was signed between the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme. (Iran-Seizure-Fuel Smuggling Vessel)

TEHRAN -- The Iranian Navy has rescued an Iranian ship from "unidentified" invading boats after armed clashes in the Red Sea the night before, the state-run IRIB TV reported on Wednesday.

Speaking in a televised interview on Wednesday, Rear Admiral Mostafa Tajoddini, a deputy commander of Iranian Navy's strategic operations, said that the naval forces immediately rushed to the scene upon receiving a rescue call from the Iranian ship under attack by unidentified boats.
