BEIRUT, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- Four people were killed and eight others were injured on Tuesday in armed clashes in the town of Wadi al-Jamous in northern Lebanon's Akkar Governorate.

A security source told Xinhua that violent clashes erupted between members of two big families in the town using machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades. The conflict also caused the burning of houses and cars.

The source added that members of the two families, which had a longstanding antagonistic relation, were caught in a fight on Monday. A man was injured and then died in the fight, which caused the escalation of violence on Tuesday.

The Army Command issued a statement saying that army units were deployed in the area and they have arrested those involved in the clashes while restoring calm there.
