ANKARA -- Turkey on Monday confirmed 27,688 new COVID-19 cases, raising its tally of infections to 6,874,947, according to its health ministry.

The death toll from the virus in Turkey rose by 231 to 61,805, while 27,949 more people recovered in the last 24 hours. (Turkey-COVID19)


BEIRUT -- The Lebanese cabinet formed by Prime Minister Najib Mikati gained on Monday a vote of confidence by the parliament with a majority of 85 out of 128 votes, NBN local TV Channel reported.

Mikati pledged to immediately resume negotiations with the International Monetary Fund on a bailout package in hope of rescuing the crisis-hit country from its worst economic meltdown in history. (Lebanon-Cabinet-Vote)


AMMAN -- Jordan on Monday called for international support for Syrian refugees as the aid for them has declined significantly during the past two years.

ISTANBUL -- Turkish security forces on Monday detained 19 illegal Afghan immigrants in Turkey's biggest city Istanbul, local media reported.

Istanbul municipal police units stopped a van on suspicion in the Sultangazi district on the European side of the city, according to the Demiroren news agency. (Turkey-Afghan refugees-Illegal migrants)
