BEIRUT, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Lebanon registered on Saturday 435 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total number of infections to 532,269, the health ministry reported.

Meanwhile, the death toll from the virus went up by 24 to 7,460.

The ministry said that only 1,313,115 people, or 19.4 percent of the population, have so far registered on the vaccination platform. Only 4 percent of the county's population have received two doses of vaccines.

The ministry has been encouraging more people to register in the hope to reach herd immunity soon. Lebanon has been fighting against the pandemic since Feb. 21, 2020.
